NDC has greater chance of winning 2024 polls with Mahama – Ephson

Veteran journalist and a pollster, Ben Ephson Junior says the National Democratic Congress (NDC) has greater advantage to win the 2024 Presidential election with John Mahama, considering the votes he garnered in the December 7, 2020 elections.

“I would be very surprised if the NDC picks somebody apart from Mahama,” the pollster told Captain Smart, host of the ‘Anɔpa Bɔfoɔ’ morning show on Angel 102.9 FM, Monday, February 8, 2021.

He added: “He got over 6.2 million votes. The main parties, NDC and NPP, are going to have headaches selecting a flagbearer. As things stand now Mahama is the foregone Candidate. He has a lot of advantages.

“Their main opponents also have a lot of disadvantages towards 2024. The only thing is whether they [NDC] will have a new running mate or not.”

The NDC will be racing for the Seat of Government in the 2024 general elections, despite the ongoing 2020 election petition hearing at the Supreme Court.

John Dramani Mahama, the 2020 Presidential Candidate for the NDC, based on expert views, is likely to lead the party again towards wresting power from the governing New Patriotic Party (NPP) in the 2024 general elections.

Answering the question of Mahama’s likelihood of losing to his contenders as Party leader, Mr. Ephson is positive that he will prevail over them. According him, John Mahama has a lot supporters on the ground so anyone who contents him will lose.

“The NPP is going to navigate a very tricky path in terms of new flagbearer, and they have a history of having problems whenever they elect a new flagbearer. For this reason a lot of people will like to contend him. If they do, they waste their monies, ” the pollster elaborated.

That said, during the party’s congress to select their Presidential Candidate for the 2020 elections, John Mahama garnered 178, 877 votes from 232 constituencies, representing 93.75% of total votes.

Other likely contenders include Professor Joshua Alabi, the party’s campaign manager in the 2020 elections, who prior to that contested for the leadership position and pulled 3, 835 votes representing 2.01%.

There is also some speculations in the media that Hannah Tetteh, former Member of Parliament (MP) for Awutu-Senya West Constituency and Minister for Foreign affairs under John Mahama, will be contesting for the position. She is now Special UN envoy to African Union.

Dr. Mahamed Ibn Chambas another diplomat serving as Special Representative of the Secretary-General and Head of the United Nations Office for West Africa and Sahel, is also conjectured to be part of candidates to contest in the race.

Others are Edward Korbly Doe Adjaho, former Speaker of Parliament; Kwame Awuah-Darko, former Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of Tema Oil Refinery (TOR); Horace Nii Ayi Ankrah, former Deputy Ghana Ambassador to China.

NDC behind the slow growth of Cape Coast,Do you agree

“The reason behind the slow growth of Cape Coast is NDC. They destroyed our once great town from 1982 onwards. Before they came, that Post Office, Courts, Ministries we’re functional. And there were jobs in Cape Coast…Ceredec, Mfantsiman, CMP, PWD, AESCHYLUS, SCC, Water Works, SHC, CMB, MMB, etc etc. Our Municipal Council was functioning, removing bins daily…then the revolution began to close down these institutions one after the other without paying benefits to anyone.

I was in UCC and keenly observed the antics of the revolutionaries, whose people in Cape Coast were not so bright but worked as agents to undermine the few successful people from our Town, who used to help us a lot: they destroyed the great life of Mr Doughan, the Deputy Regional Minister; Mr Joe Hayfron, Chairman of Dwarfs; they chased our former MP, Lawyer Brodie-Mends out of town; they chased William Amarteifio a quiet contributor out of the country; they shocking chased our main man, Col F G Bernasko out of town for years, together with J WS Degraft Johnson, former Vice President of Ghana…And many others, much to the applause of Cape Coasters. June 4 Movement wrote letters upon letters to PNDC to confiscate the properties of Ameen Sangari.

I saw the File with Leo Yankson of June 4th and reported it to Mr Walker who got them arrested. The letters were horrible. In all these, I saw so many Cape Coasters jubilation at the abuse of these people. NDC chased out Mr GEB Awuku out of the country and destroyed most of his businesses in Accra. NDCFUO took away Mr Kwesi Brew’s Golden Spoon Flour Factory. They attacked the Diamond Business of a great rich Cape Coast lady, Mrs Mary Rawlings (Mrs Adu Boahen).

They retired our leading men in the Top Hierarchy of Ghana’s Civil Service such as Robert Hinson and Ackah Yensu of State Insurance and I B Ashun, Principal Secretary of Ministry of Finance. All these people made quiet but significant contributions to our Town’s development.

Our rich men like Coleman Paitoo, Addison, W G Tandoh of Wescodye, Yankah of TOPP Farms, I K Quansah etc were all snuffed out. These days we don’t have such type of very rich people again except the ndcfuo. These people were always helping the Town. They supported our Afahye.

But we lost both our industries and great people; but Cape Coasters were only interested in the downfall of these successful people. I never stopped observing the ndc people terrorising and destroying our people and businesses. The point is, most Cape Coasters are not very successful but instead of being happy for our few successful people they rejoice when they see them demonised!

NDC destroyed, neglected and abandoned most institutions in Cape Coast including our time honoured sewage and sanitation system, employment avenues, hospitals and schools, Social Welfare, Parks & Gardens, Courts, Post Office etc.

Then they imposed their man on us as our Paramount Chief. He then went all out with his unnecessary political agenda…and opened a huge conflict between him and present President.

………………..
………………..

Let me tell you what we can do to help, below here.

We must send a Powerful Delegation of Cape Coasters to meet with the President at the Jubilee House and discuss these two things:

  1. To patch up the long running hostile conflict between President Nana Akuffo Addo and Omanhene Kwesi Atta. We must do it properly and help to reconcile their differences that developed in the disgraceful 2010 Afahye debacle. To me, our Chief must tone down on his NDC Politics considerably. Chiefs don’t normally show their true political colours so openly as he does.
  2. We must also have a plan to discuss our development from job creation, tourism, demolishing of Post Office (which should have been done when the ndc sold Ghana Telecom to Vodafone), rehabilitation of Cape Coast Elementary and Secondary Schools with their own Libraries, Fish Farming in the Fosu Lagoon, construction of Fishing Quay at ‘Abrofo Mpoano, Development of Sports, Rehabilitation of Cape Coast Central Hospital and attraction of Investors to establish viable businesses in our town that is located in the centre of Accra, Kumasi and Takoradi…etc etc.
We’ll add more items to the Agenda when the time approaches. So many Towns including ndc voting northerners have sent such delegation to the compassionate President and he has helped them with their requests. We are the only ones who haven’t gone to Jubilee House because we have NDC Leaders like the 2 MPs and the Oguaa Omanhene.

The Delegation to the President and Cabinet must include the following:

  • Mr Andrew Fiifi Simpson
  • Prof Philip Bondzi-Simpson
  • Mr Bernasko
  • Mr Victor Savage
  • Mr Ekow Sam
  • Mr Ato Amponsa-Dadzie
  • Mr Nana Butler
  • Mrs Christine Afrifa
  • Ms Christine Churcher
  • Rev Carl Sackeyfio
  • Legna and Cole Younger

The President knows most of these highly successful intelligent people from our Town and will listen to their pleas to let bygones be bygones. We can later have a good ceremony to pacify the gods to bring us peace and closure. Then our Delegation will let the NPP Government and President know our Development agenda. The Delegation can invite President Kufuor to the meeting and am sure he will join them because he spent most of his Weekends with Uncle Kojo Alata in Cape Coast.

We must ignore hateful people in town and focus on goodness and as we do so, goodies will return.

I can contribute by writing a short Piece of Essay about the contribution of Cape Coasters to the NPP!

I hope no one responds to my contribution here, please. We are not in a Debate but suggestion mode. Talk your own some and move on!”

[Video] I don’t understand why you seem to be confusing me with the petitioner – Aseidu Nketia to EC Lawyer

First witness for the petitioner in the 2020 Presidential Election Petition, John Asiedu Nketiah, Friday raised a concern in the Supreme Court that counsel for the 1st Respondent Electoral Commission of Ghana (EC) addressed him as though he were the petitioner.

The National Democratic Congress (NDC) General Secretary took his turn in the witness box at the Supreme Court as the first witness of the petitioner to be crossed examined.

While counsel for the EC was “putting it to” masked Mr. Nketiah in the witness box who provided answers where required, it got to a point where he got seemingly alarmed by the line of questioning.

The counsel for the EC, Lawyer Justin Amenuvor had made reference to some analysis the petitioner did on the Techiman South results and arrived at a conclusion that  the EC Chair was wrong with her figures when she declared Akufo-Addo President on December 9, 2020.

The lawyer pointed out to Mr. Aseidu that the analysis was not accurate.

“I’m putting it to you that using all the total valid votes in the Techiman South constituency, that’s the total registered voters (sic) in the Techiman South Constituency to do your analysis is incorrect and I’m putting that to you”, he said.

Aseidu Nketia disagreed, explaining that their analysis on that issue was informed by what the 1st Respondent Electoral Commission chairperson, Jean Mensa had said on December 9, 2020 when she declared the Presidential Election Results in favor of the 2nd Respondent Akufo-Addo

“So the analysis we did there was to show that based on the figures she herself declared, that statement could not be correct”, he explained.

Counsel insisted the witness knew that the Chairperson of the EC was right in her analysis as at the time she was declaring the said results and that it was stated in the petition and same confirmed by the 1st Respondent.

Mr. Nketiah wanted to clarify if the EC lawyer was referring to him as the one who he knew the EC chair was right. The lawyer answered in the affirmative, adding “so the petitioner stated that in the petition that that ought to be the correct number and the 1st Respondent agreed too”.

“I’m putting it to you that you knew”, Lawyer Justin stood his grounds demanding an answer to that query.

Mr. Nketia was hesistant with the answer at this point. He felt the lawyer had mistaken him for the petitioner.

“My lord, I don’t understand why you seem to be confusing me with the petitioner, my Lord, I don’t understand”, he said, while laughing.

The court was thrown into laughter.

That however did not stop the lawyer from demanding his answers.

Sam George blasts NDC members accusing their MPs of being sell-outs

“See I had decided to keep quiet and not speak but the truth is I cannot hold it in anymore.

It is annoying and irritating seeing the disparaging and demeaning commentary being propagated by members of the NDC against the Parliamentary Caucus of the Party reference the upcoming vetting process. The suggestion that we are a group of sell-outs who have no spine is insulting.

All 137 of us in Parliament stood up to the excessive abuse of State Power by the Akufo-Addo regime and I the face of intimidation and threats won our Parliamentary seats for the Party. On the night of the 6th and 7th January, we again with unity of purpose put our lives at risk and successfully elected an NDC Speaker of Parliament. What more should the NDC MPs do before you our own recognise our sacrifice?

Whatever inducement you think is being offered did not exist when we put Party first to elect a Speaker? Do you know the battles many members are having to fight today as a consequence of our actions on the night of the 7th January?

What is most annoying is those who are making all the threats and casting insinuation have failed to provide a half page memorandum on why any of the people they are talking about should be disqualified. Disqualification is not based on emotional outbursts or your whims and caprices. It is based on HARD FACTS backed by EVIDENCE! And don’t tell me the evidence is there. You too you are a person, package it and send it to us as a Memorandum.

I believe in the sense of caramaderie in the NDC Caucus. I believe in the integrity of our Members on the Appointments Committee. I trust our Leadership. We would act in the ultimate best interest of Party and Country. This involves putting tact, strategy and wisdom over emotions. If you.have a problem with that, kindly pick forms the next time nominations are opened and contest to become an MP and come and do the blow man things you are posting about.

Learn to love your own, dear NDC Member!🦁 -Sam George

NDC won’t use Bagbin to frustrate Akufo-Addo’s government – Sam George

The Member of Parliament for the Ningo Prampram constituency, Sam Nartey George has assured Ghanaians that the National Democratic Congress (NDC) will not take advantage of the election of its member, Alban Kingsford Sumana Bagbin as Speaker of Parliament to frustrate President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo in his second term of office.

Mr. Nartey George in an interview on Eyewitness News said “if we wanted to hold the President to ransom, the Speaker would not have been allowed to appear for the President’s swearing-in ceremony. We would have just asked the First Deputy Speaker, Joe Osei Owusu to replace him. We are not that kind of party.”

“We have proven to be consensus builders, after ceding the first Deputy Speaker position to the NPP, what did we do? We nominated the independent candidate as the Second Deputy. We have shown our interest in safeguarding the democracy of the country,” the Ningo Prampram legislator noted.

Bagbin is the best NDC person to be Speaker under an Akufo-Addo presidency – Gabby

A leading member of the governing New Patriotic Party (NPP), Gabby Asare Otchere-Darko believes the newly-elected Speaker of Parliament, Alban Kingsford Sumana Bagbin is the best person from the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC) to hold such a position under President Nana Akufo-Addo’s presidency.

He argued that Bagbin is experienced enough and will not unduly frustrate the work of the government.

Ghana currently has a hung Parliament and has the Speaker of Parliament emerging from the NDC.

Mr. Bagbin defeated the Speaker of the 7th Parliament, Prof. Mike Oquaye in an election held in Parliament on Thursday, January 7, 2021, to become the first gentleman in the 8th Parliament.

There have been concerns about how President Akufo-Addo’s working relationship with Parliament will be, especially with the historic turn of events.

But according to Otchere-Darko, President Akufo-Addo and Mr. Bagbin have always enjoyed mutual respect for each other.

“Under the circumstances, Alban Bagbin is the best person from the NDC to be Speaker under an Akufo-Addo presidency. Yes, he is true green NDC – through and through. But, if the nation must have a Speaker from the opposition who can be expected not to unduly frustrate the work of Government, then Bagbin is he.”

“He has maturity. He has experience. He does not dislike Akufo-Addo. In fact, the two have always enjoyed mutual respect for each other. He had just retired from “active” politics even though he owes his nomination to his party.”

Mr. Otchere-Darko insisted that Mr. Bagbin will not allow himself to do the bidding of his NDC party.

“I do not expect Mr. Speaker to go against the national interest in order to satisfy, say, a JM agenda. And, he can be his own man. I am inclined to believe him when he says he will serve the nation with honesty.”

“Serving the nation also means helping the party elected to implement the manifesto platform upon which it campaigned and got given the mandate of the people. The NPP remains the Majority in Parliament to drive the agenda of the Executive and requires the full, professional cooperation of the Speaker.”

NDC won’t use Bagbin to frustrate Akufo-Addo’s administration

The Member of Parliament for the Ningo Prampram constituency, Sam Nartey George had earlier assured Ghanaians that the NDC will not take advantage of the election of Mr. Bagbin as Speaker of Parliament to frustrate President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo’s administration.

He explained that if that’s their intention, they wouldn’t have allowed him to attend the swearing-in ceremony of President Akufo-Addo the party boycotted.

“If we wanted to hold the President to ransom, the Speaker would not have been allowed to appear for the President’s swearing-in ceremony. We would have just asked the First Deputy Speaker, Joe Osei Owusu to replace him. We are not that kind of party.”

“We have proven to be consensus builders, after seceding the first Deputy Speaker position to the NPP, what did we do? We nominated the independent candidate as the Second Deputy. We have shown our interest in safeguarding the democracy of the country,” the Ningo Prampram legislator noted. We heard the Speaker himself say that he is going to discharge his duties without fear or favour. He never showed bias while Second Deputy Speaker of Parliament. Ghanaians can rest assured that under no circumstances will we bring in partisan bias into the working of the House,” Sam George Added.

Confusion in Parliament as NDC MPs take over majority seat

There is drama in Parliament following a decision by members of the National Democratic Congress to sit on the majority side of Parliament as the 7th Parliament prepares for dissolution to pave way for the inauguration of the 8th Parliament.

This decision, however, did not go down well with members of the New Patriotic Party.

The NDC MPs have long contended that they hold the Majority in Parliament despite coming away from the polls with the same number of seats as the New Patriotic Party Caucus; 137 apiece.

When the bulk of the NPP MPs arrived, they opted to sit at the Minority side for the time being.

But some NPP MPs like Peter Amewu, K.T. Hammond and Ursula Owusu-Ekuful challenged the NDC MPs who hooted back at them.

Mr. Amewu, a first-time MP, appeared to be the most vexed by the conduct of the NDC MPs.

Mrs. Owusu-Ekuful for a period vowed not to sit down till she was given a seat in the Majority side.

One of the most anticipated moment occurred when the independent candidate for Fomena, Andrew Amoako Asiamah, walked in and sat with the NPP MPs sparking praise songs from them.

His alliance with them would give them one extra seat over the NDC Caucus.

Following his arrival, Mrs. Owusu-Ekuful proceeded to sit amongst the NDC MPs on the Majority side.
