Ban On Social Gatherings Does Not Include Marriage Ceremonies – Oppong-Nkrumah

The Minister-designate for Information, Mr. Kojo Oppong-Nkrumah, has explained that the reintroduction of a ban on social restrictions as announced by President Akufo-Addo last Sunday, does not include the ban on marriage ceremonies.

Rather, he says the social activity of parties and/or receptions associated with occasions such as funerals and marriage ceremonies is what has been banned.

Consequently, he says, marriage ceremonies, which are held in the churches, and mosques where there is strict adherence to COVID-19 protocols can go on.

Mr. Oppong-Nkrumah gave the clarification on Tuesday at a press briefing on the government’s COVID-19 response in the country.

Ban reintroduced

President Akufo-Addo last Sunday reintroduced a ban on all social events, including weddings, funerals, and other social events as part of interventions to halt the surge of the Coronavirus in the country.

The directive, according to the President, was based on data, which suggests that the surge in cases was as a result of non-adherence to preventive protocols at such social gatherings.

Confusion

The President’s announcement has however triggered discussions among some sections of the public.

Some have questioned why religious gatherings under strict protocols as prescribed and for two hours have been allowed but events such as funerals and weddings have been banned.

Clarification

Throwing more light on the President’s directive, Mr. Oppong-Nkrumah explained that “the President did not say that marriages are banned.”

Likewise, he said burial services were allowed but with a limited number of 25 persons at the ceremony.

“The president did not ban burial service because the activity of burial, we actually encourage to go on… What is banned in the funeral where typically in the Ghanaian community we will all gather, shake hands, announcement of people, then they’ll call for a song, people will come and dance, where there is a little party associated with it. That is what has been banned,” he explained.

“In the same way, when it comes to marriage, what the president has said is that, what in Ghana we call wedding, the full-blown wedding where we have a big party with a reception and people dancing and people eating, sitting at reception tables, etc, that is what has been banned,” he added.

“We’ve got a lot of requests about so what if somebody is having a church service, which is allowed, and they choose to bless their marriage there as part of the church service. I’m not sure that is what has been banned. It’s the wedding. The full-blown wedding with its reception and social activity associated with it is what has been banned,” Mr Oppong-Nkrumah explained further.

Case update

The Director-General of the Ghana Health Service (GHS), Dr. Patrick Kuma-Aboagye noted that as at January 30, 2021, Ghana had recorded 5,515 active cases, 424 deaths and 61,843 discharges or clinical recoveries.

He also noted that the Greater Accra Region accounted for 56.7 percent of total cases, while the Ashanti and Western Regions accounted for 16.0 and 6.1 percent of cases respectively.

He added that 294 persons who had tested positive for COVID-19 were on admission, with 34 being critical, 122 being severe and 138 being mild to moderate cases.

Central Region Tailors Association mad over SHS uniforms in the region contracted to Accra Tailors

According to Cape Coast Tailors Association and Central Region Tailors Association, all the uniforms of SHS students in the region are being sewed in Accra.

It seems in Ghana, everything is all about Accra. We can’t even sow our own unforms for our schools in our region too? Should this also be done in Accra? We have Cape Coast Technical University, Cape Coast Technical Institute, Biriwa Vocational Technical Institute, Asuansi Technical Institute who are all offering Fashion Design and Tailoring courses to their students. In addition, we have top fashion designers like Sharp look designs, Sab fashion etc in Cape Coast and all over the Region. Won’t this create job and reduce the burden of always going to Accra to get employed?

All the money collected from our tourists sites in the region are sent to Accra. Now, we can’t get the opportunity to sow the uniforms of our own schools too? Everything in Cape Coast/Central Region goes to Accra but nothing from Accra comes to Cape Coast/Central Region. Should we always depend on Accra for the betterment of our dear city and Region?

We plead with our respected Central Region House of Chiefs, the Chief of Cape Coast Osabarima Kwesi Atta, Central Regional Minister, all the MMDCE’S and all the Mp’s in the region to make sure our tailors and fashion designers get the opportunity to sow the uniforms of our own schools.

TeePhlow tests positive for coronavirus

Ghanaian rapper, TeePhlow whose real name is Lukeman Ekow Baidoo has disclosed to Amansan Krakye in an interview on Kastle FM has revealed why he is still locked up in the USA.

TeePhlow who is currently in Connecticut in the USA said he has tested positive for the novel Coronavirus and only got to know of his status when he was about to return to Ghana, but he kept it from the public for fear of causing panic amongst his fan base.

“As for abroad, we came to just make a curve and return home which we adequately prepared to come back to Ghana. When I was about to return to Ghana, I was supposed to do a COVID-19  test before I would be allowed to go to the airport and travel back home,” he stated.

“But unfortunately I tested positive for Covid-19, however, it’s a piece of information which I didn’t put out earlier in the public domain to avoid panicking amongst my fanbase. So when it happened like that it means I couldn’t fly back to Ghana from Connecticut in the USA,” he revealed on Kastle Drive.

TeePhlow advised his followers on Kastle FM 90.3MHz in Cape Coast to tread cautiously because Covid-19 is real and therefore appealed for everyone to abide strictly by the safety protocols whilst the use of herbal medicine should also be encouraged.

He remarked “Another thing is that it was during that time that I heard that the number of coronavirus infections is also increasing in Ghana. Whenever I have the opportunity to speak I always advice people to be extra careful.

“We have to practice social distancing and apart from that you have to eat more fruits and vegetables, ginger with garlic mixture boiled together and drink more traditional herbal medicine,” he continued.

He concluded, “Because Covid-19 is very real which is killing a lot of people so let’s all be careful and at the appropriate time I shall return to Ghana for all of us to properly have fun together.”

Rise in Covid-19 cases due to elections; accept responsibility – Prophet to Government.

Head Pastor of Alabaster International Ministries, Prophet Dr. Kofi Oduro, has blamed politicians for the jump in the coronavirus cases in Ghana.

He attributed the rise in the cases to the campaign activities during last year’s elections after some of the people who attended campaign events violated the protocols outlined to deal with the virus.

He also lashed out at the lawmakers who engaged in disturbances in parliament during the election of a Speaker for the 8th Parliament on January 7. He noted that they failed to observe the protocols in the chamber that day.

The government has expressed deep concerns following the spike in the active cases of the virus lately.

The country has 390 deaths, as of January 25, 2021, according to the Ghana Health Service (GHS).

The active cases stand at 3,940.

The country’s cumulative cases stood at 63,883 after more than 757,000 tests.

Ghanaians have been urged to observe all the protocols outlined to deal with the virus.

In one of his sermons recently, Prophet Dr. Kofi Oduro blamed the political leaders for the development and asked the government to take blame.

He said “Never tell me that these spikes just jumped up. I am telling you that this is as a result of your political dancing and vuvuzela blowing. Don’t be a hypocrite.

“They must take responsibility, look at the way everybody is in nose mask, everybody washes the hands, sanitizes their hands. If you want us to bring those videos back, we will. Take responsibility.”

He added “Suddenly, coronavirus had jumped. It was already, all the time, spreading. During the campaign, during the inauguration, coronavirus was still spreading.

“I am telling the government to be an example. Don’t tell me that when you were campaigning there was no coronavirus. When the people were fighting in parliament where social distancing was? When people were chewing paper and sitting on other people where did they know there was coronavirus.

“In September, in October in November in December it was spreading. During campaign during inauguration corona was still spreading. I am telling the government to lead by example. Don’t tell me that when you are campaigning there was no coronavirus, when the people were fighting there was no corona.”

WATCH VIDEO : Two evangelists fight over preaching spot.

Nigerians have questioned the anointing on two evangelists as they were spotted in a tough battle over preaching spot at Ikeja bus stop in Lagos.

The female evangelist was not ready to lose her spot to her male counterpart who had already set up his equipment and began his ministry.

In a video that has since gone viral, the female preacher could be seen charging at the male preacher and hurling abuses at him while the man was firing hot ”prayers” against her.

‘ Idiot, Ashawo preacher’ were some unpalatable words the female preacher used on her colleague who only commanded her to get away.

After successfully snatching the microphone from her colleague, the female evangelist tied her headscarf to her waist, an indication she was a red belt champion, ready for the spiritual battle.

In what was a brief but interesting fight, the female precaher conceded defeat and attempted to walk away, but that was only after cursing and spitting all over.

[Video] I don’t understand why you seem to be confusing me with the petitioner – Aseidu Nketia to EC Lawyer

First witness for the petitioner in the 2020 Presidential Election Petition, John Asiedu Nketiah, Friday raised a concern in the Supreme Court that counsel for the 1st Respondent Electoral Commission of Ghana (EC) addressed him as though he were the petitioner.

The National Democratic Congress (NDC) General Secretary took his turn in the witness box at the Supreme Court as the first witness of the petitioner to be crossed examined.

While counsel for the EC was “putting it to” masked Mr. Nketiah in the witness box who provided answers where required, it got to a point where he got seemingly alarmed by the line of questioning.

The counsel for the EC, Lawyer Justin Amenuvor had made reference to some analysis the petitioner did on the Techiman South results and arrived at a conclusion that  the EC Chair was wrong with her figures when she declared Akufo-Addo President on December 9, 2020.

The lawyer pointed out to Mr. Aseidu that the analysis was not accurate.

“I’m putting it to you that using all the total valid votes in the Techiman South constituency, that’s the total registered voters (sic) in the Techiman South Constituency to do your analysis is incorrect and I’m putting that to you”, he said.

Aseidu Nketia disagreed, explaining that their analysis on that issue was informed by what the 1st Respondent Electoral Commission chairperson, Jean Mensa had said on December 9, 2020 when she declared the Presidential Election Results in favor of the 2nd Respondent Akufo-Addo

“So the analysis we did there was to show that based on the figures she herself declared, that statement could not be correct”, he explained.

Counsel insisted the witness knew that the Chairperson of the EC was right in her analysis as at the time she was declaring the said results and that it was stated in the petition and same confirmed by the 1st Respondent.

Mr. Nketiah wanted to clarify if the EC lawyer was referring to him as the one who he knew the EC chair was right. The lawyer answered in the affirmative, adding “so the petitioner stated that in the petition that that ought to be the correct number and the 1st Respondent agreed too”.

“I’m putting it to you that you knew”, Lawyer Justin stood his grounds demanding an answer to that query.

Mr. Nketia was hesistant with the answer at this point. He felt the lawyer had mistaken him for the petitioner.

“My lord, I don’t understand why you seem to be confusing me with the petitioner, my Lord, I don’t understand”, he said, while laughing.

The court was thrown into laughter.

That however did not stop the lawyer from demanding his answers.
