Press statement requesting government to declare Australian high commissioner & Danish Ambassador persona non Grata- Journalist against LGBTO+GHANA

We wish to request government to declare two diplomats as persona non grata as a result of their involvement in funding the community space of the Lesbians, Gays, Bisexual, Transgender and Queer (LGBTQ) group.

The two diplomats, the Australian High Commissioner, His Excellency, Andrew Barnes and the Danish Ambassador, His Excellency, Tom Norring have been accused for funding the community space as a result of the LGBTQ group hosting them as fundraisers on January 31, 2021.

As a result of their actions, we (Journalists’ Against the LGBTQ group + Ghana) is drawing the attention of government to declare that the presence of the diplomats in the country was unfit and therefore their actions did not consider the highly kept morals and preserved culture and traditions of our dear country.

We also want to clear the air that a story circulating that President Nana Addo Danquah Akufo-Addo has directed the closure of the LGBTQ office is totally false and mere charade.

Our checks with the security agencies reveal that they do not know the location of the LGBTQ office but we know the office is located within the precincts of the Australian Ambassador’s official residence.

We are calling on all Ghanaians to join us demonstrate to government how livid we are seeing the group go about their duties in the country.

We will start the demonstration at Obra Spot, Kwame Nkrumah Circle Interchange on Wednesday,24th February, 2021 from 6am to 12noon marching through various places in the national capital until we get to the seat of government, Jubilee House to present our petition.

Ntim Fordjour deserve commendation

The fight against LGBT has been a fight on the neck of Ghana since prof. Mills time.

This has been a music from day one, when American and other European countries accepted it as a norm. Ghana been a Christian nation and also a traditional nation can’t toll to that direction.

The current mp has been consistent in the fight against this and for that matter he must be commended.

I take exception to some comments he made during the 2020 election with regards to his opponent and this LGBT. In total he has done well and need to be commended.

Hon Ntim may God bless you for such a strong fight against this immoral act.

Thank you

First batch of COVID-19 vaccines expected to arrive today

Ghana is expected to take delivery of its first batch of COVID-19 vaccines later today, according to the Minister for Information-designate, Kojo Oppong Nkrumah.

In brief comments at the Conference and Donor Presentation for the Sustainable Development of Yendi Municipal Hospital on Sunday, he noted that he was at the programme “though I have another engagement on our COVID-19 vaccines that are arriving early [Monday] morning.”

The Food and Drugs Authority has approved the AstraZeneca and Sputnik V vaccines for use in Ghana.

The government has also considered Moderna, Pfizer and Johnson & Johnson vaccines.

The government has already indicated that it had plans to purchase 350,000 doses of the AstraZeneca by the end of February.

The vaccine rollout has been earmarked for between March and October.

Mr. Oppong Nkrumah earlier confirmed that some government officials will be taking the vaccine publicly as a way of instilling confidence in the process.

There will also be public sensitisation campaigns by the Local Government Service, Ministry of Health, Ghana Health Service, National Commission for Civic Education and Information Services Department to educate the public on the vaccination.

The Greater Accra, Ashanti and Western regions will receive priority in the rollout because of the prevalence of infection in these areas, according to the Ghana Health Service.

Ghana has had 80,253 cases of the virus and 577 deaths.

The country currently has 6,658 active cases of infection, according to the latest update from the Ghana Health Service.

Hon. Ntim Fordjour calls for immediate closure of LGBTQI resource centre in Ghana

The Member of Parliament (MP) for Assin South, Hon.Rev. John Ntim Fordjour has called on the National Security to immediately close down the recently opened LGBTQI resource centre in Ghana.

Mr. Fordjour said Ghana views lesbianism, homosexuality, bestiality and other related practices of LGBTQI  as an “abomination and utterly abhorred” hence must not be encouraged in the country.

According to him, Ghana has “since pre-colonial era had always upheld a culture of morality and decency and within our cultural and traditional contexts.”

“I strongly urge the national security apparatus to take urgent steps to CLOSE DOWN the LGBTQI resource center in Ghana with immediate effect and prosecute the perpetrators accordingly.”

The Assin South legislator added he believes that activities of LGBTQIs in Ghana are due to pressures from the western world and that must be resisted as long as they continue.

“The influence of the west on our society relating to LGBTQI infiltrations remain an age-old pressure, which must be resisted as long as the pressure shows no indication of abating.”

The opening of the LGBTQI center in an unknown location in Ghana has recently generated public conversations with some calling on the government to close it down, claiming that it will serve interests that are abhorrent to culture and values of the country while others have insisted that the rights of LGBTQIs must be protected and as anyone else.

Meanwhile, the Ghana Catholic Bishops Conference has also called on president Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo to close down the facility

The Conference insisted that though the church respects the human rights of homosexuals, it frowns upon acts of homosexuality.

“We also call on the Government of Ghana to close down the LGBTQI office space that was recently opened in Accra,” it said in a statement.

Below is the full statement

Close down LGBTQI resource Centre with immediate effect – Rev Ntim Fordjour Urges National Security

Our Ghanaian society, since pre-colonial era had always upheld a culture of morality and decency and within our cultural and traditional contexts, the practices of Lesbianism, Homosexuality, Bestiality and Transgender and other related practices of LGBTQI had long held as abomination and utterly abhorred. The concept of family for us as Ghanaians has always been and will always be initiated by marriage between a man and woman. The fundamental principle of Biblical marriage is construed as one between man and woman as it was in the beginning instituted by God between Adam and Eve.

The influence of the west on our society relating to LGBTQI infiltrations remain an age old pressure, which must be resisted as long as the pressure shows no indication of abating.

Section 104 of Ghana’s Criminal Code proscribes LGBTQI with the specific provision of ‘unnatural carnal knowledge’. While some activists have contended that the provision of ‘unnatural carnal knowledge’ is anachronistic and no longer sufficient to adequately address the emerging trends of LGBTQI matters in the country, and so therefore further strengthening of the law is required to position our laws more robust, encompassing and stringent in dealing with the abominable practices of LGBTQI, I have remained an ardent advocate for the enforcement of existing laws and fully inclined towards further legislation to adequately deal with these matters in consistency with the Constitution of Ghana and in line with our broad religious and cultural orientation, with particular regard for morality.

Contrary to the notion that persons practicing LGBTQI in Ghana are discriminated against, I strongly hold the view that persons practicing LGBTQI are rather unfortunately pampered and treated with kids gloves in Ghana. This position of mine, among other references, is premised on the seeming public ‘glorifying’ on media of acts which are serious contravention of our law. The impunity of open and public advocacy and practice LGBTQI is on the rise largely because perpetrators have not been prosecuted.

The recent opening of LGBTQI resource center in Accra is the height of it. Is the National Security apparatus telling us that they have no information on the location of this so called LGBTQI resource center that has been opened for weeks now? Are they telling us they have no intelligence on the people and groups behind this abominable act? Why are they quite? If ‘Armed Robbers Association’ or ‘Drug Traffickers Association’ were to publicly open an office in any obscure corner of Ghana, wouldn’t the security agencies conduct a rapid raid by now with alacrity?

It is appalling and most hypocritical that a state that abhors LGBTQI practices on religious and cultural orientation as well as criminalizes same practices per our Criminal Code would sit unconcerned for such impunity to be perpetrated. Some of us, regardless the ramifications, cannot shut up! I’ll keep up the advocacy for further strengthening of our laws to completely and assertively deal with the complexities of LGBTQI matters and will continue to explore my legislative options under the private members bill until such a time when existing laws will be confidently enforced with additional laws proscribing the advocacy for LGBTQI practices in Ghana.

Until then, I strongly urge the national security apparatus to take urgent steps to CLOSE DOWN the LGBTQI resource center in Ghana with immediate effect and prosecute the perpetrators accordingly.

My fervent appeal to our eminent Clergy, Muslim Clerics, and venerable Traditional leaders, respectfully, is that, if these LGBTQI practices and advocacies are truly deemed affront to the values and orientation of what we unanimously believe in as a nation-state, then this is the time to rise up and make our voices and strong position heard and entrenched more uncompromisingly than ever before.

On diplomatic front, I urge all state and non state actors and external diplomatic entities to respect the sovereign orientation and decision of Ghana in such matters and withhold their undue interference under the guise of human rights.

Covid-19:Teachers deserve reward for commitment, not only nurses — Akatsi South GNAT to government

Mr Prosper Agbeli, Chairman of the Ghana National Association of Teachers (GNAT), Akatsi South has stated that, teachers in the country must be applauded and rewarded for showing commitment to work in the midst of the Coronavirus disease.

According to him, the government has placed priority only on the health sector whilst teachers are left behind.

He added that school children in Akatsi area are finding it very difficult to adhere to the laid down covid-19 protocols especially during break time and after school hours.

He said, maintaining social distancing among children is one of the challenges they are facing in the classrooms since desks are not enough for the pupil.

Mr Agbeli explained that teachers risk their lives playing key roles in ensuring that children go according to the standard protocols to mitigate the spread of the virus.

He appeals for veronica buckets to ensure easy hand washing since school kids often play about anyhow.

Mr Agbeli said wearing the face mask by students during school hours has bee given attention but the situation does not continue after school hours which he said, “is a worrying situation” for teachers as well.

He maintained that government must acknowledge their efforts in these hard times of the covid-19 pandemic and award all teachers for the sacrifices.

Video: I’m gay, I prefer men like John Dumelo – Pappy Kojo

Jason Gaisie, popularly known as Pappy Kojo, a Ghanaian hip hop and hiplife recording artist, has claimed on the Showbiz 360 programme on TV3, that he is a homosexual.

Asked by host of the programe Giovani Caleb on Friday February 19 whether or not he was joking with the comment, he insisted with all seriousness that he is gay.

Pappy Kojo further told Giovani that he prefers men like actor John Dumelo

“I am a homosexual man,” he said when told about rumours indicating that he is currently dating a popular female musician. He said in reaction to a question by Giovani about his alleged relationship with Yvonne Nelson.

“Is that a joke?” Giovani asked him but he answered “No, it is not. I am gay bro. I am into men”

“What is your kind of man? He was asked again.

In answer, he said “Men like John Dumelo.”

When his attention was drawn to the fact that laws of the land do no permit such act, he retorted ”You can’t change it.”

Meanwhile Giovani believed he was joking with these comments which come at a time issues about Lesbian, Gay, Bisexuals, Transgender and Queer Individuals (LGBTQI) have dominated discussions on the airwaves after Minister-designate for Gender, Children and Social Protection, Sarah Adwoa Sarfo has expressed disapproval over the legalisation of homosexuality in the country.

The Dome Kwabenya lawmaker during her vetting by the Appointments Committee of Parliament said “The issue of LGBTQI is an issue that when mentioned creates some controversy but “what I want to say is that our laws are clear on such practices. It makes it criminal.

“On the issue of its criminality, it is non-negotiable on the issue of cultural acceptance and norms too. These practices are also frowned upon,” she stated emphatically.

Director of LGBTQI+ Rights in Ghana, Alex Kofi Donkor, has asked Ghanaians to look at issues relating to LGBTQI, as human right issues.

He told TV3’s Miriam Osei Agyemang on the Mid day news on Friday February 19 that persons who are identified as LGBTQI are verbally and physically attacked in the country

This, he said, must stop because they have fundamental human rights that must be respected and protected by the society.

Explaining the reasons behind the setup of an LGBTQI office in Ghana, he said “We created an office space where we talk about issues which affect us as community and ways in which we can resolve the issues.

“Let me quickly say in this country a lot of times we do experience a lot of violence and abuse that are perpetuated towards people who are identified as LGBTQI or people who are perceived as LGBTQI persons. When these violence are perpetuated against such people it goes unattended to, people do that with impunity.”

Dr. Vladimir Antwi Danso, Dean of Academic Affairs at the Ghana Armed Forces Command and Staff College, has urged Ghanaians, especially those in authority to be emphatic in the resistance of the LGBTQI phenomenon in the country.

He expressed his apprehension on the heels of the LGBTQI establishing an office in the country in an interview with Alfred Ocansey on News 360 on TV3, Thursday February 18.

Dr. Danso emphasized the position that “any international organization can support any other entity in any other country but that does not confer diplomatic immunity to persons who are going to use this facility, so if any Ghanaian is there doing anything, only Ghanaian laws apply to such personality. If any foreigner is patronizing the place his immunity inures from the diplomatic immunity according to the international conventions we know in Vienna. They can’t claim immunity just because the facility belongs to gays, lesbians, and that kind of thing”.

He shares the view that such avenues are subtle ways of influencing the cultural norms and security of a sovereign society like Ghana with a potential international consequence for the country.

“Ghana has not officially accepted LGBTQ and that kind of thing as an official position that we recognize it as a Human Rights thing, and therefore going further to have this thing established has repercussions not necessarily from government to government level repercussion but the general security implications, when I say security I’m talking about the broad sense security, I mean what is this?” he fumed.

Journalist against LGBTI🏳️‍🌈 Ghana🇬🇭 to Demonstrate against the presence of Lesbian,Gay,Bisexual Transgender and Queer intersex(LGBTI) in Ghana

We write to register our intense displeasure and disgust against the presence of the LGBTGI rights group and the brazen support of the European Union (EU) in opening the new community space of the group in the country.

It is such a disrespect to our preserved and much revered morals and religious beliefs which hugely frowns on same sex relations and I therefore, call for a demonstration to express my displeasure and petition the President to close the LGBTI office in Ghana and declare the LGBTI “illegal and immoral”.

We also want to add our voices to the high-profile and well-meaning Ghanaians who have stood against such a group in the country and consequently call for a comprehensive legislation by Parliament to deal with the presence of such groups.

We therefore, use this missive to call on all Ghanaians to join us in the demonstration on Wednesday, 24th February, 2021 from 6am to 12 noon from the Kwame Nkrumah Interchange, Circle Obra Spot through to the seat of Government at Jubilee House.
Thank you.

Chairman Kutin Deserves a Golden Medal

Over the past years, the New Patriotic Party (NPP) has modelled some amazing and brilliant personalities.

The Central Regional Chairman of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) remains one of those smart, and competent party stalwarts who deserve a “golden medal” for their sterling performance over the years.

Having served in varying capacities, the honourable chairman, Mr. Robert Kutin remains one with indelible records of outstanding performances up until the party’s loss of parliamentary seats across the country for reasons yet to decipher.

With his records as a staunch patriot, it wouldn’t be a surprise seeing him serve in the corridors of the high offices of the National Chairman of the party.
