An elderly man collapsed and died in New York City on Sunday morning shortly after receiving a COVID-19 vaccine, officials revealed Monday.
The man, who was in his 70s, fell as he left Manhattan’s Jacob Javits Convention Center just 25 minutes after receiving his shot, New York State Health Commissioner Dr. Howard Zucker said in a statement.
On-site security and first responders raced to his side within seconds, but the man, who has not yet been named, was pronounced dead at a local hospital shortly afterwards.
It’s currently unclear if the man’s death is linked to the vaccine, with an investigation now underway.
Adverse reactions to the vaccine are considered extremely rare, with those few cases most commonly linked to an allergic reaction known as anaphylaxis.
‘Initial indications are that the man did not have any allergic reaction to the vaccine,’ Zucker, however, said in his statement.

The man’s sudden collapsing followed a mandatory 15-minute observation period, in which he ‘exhibited no adverse reactions or any distress,’ Zucker said.
The FDNY said the patient was taken to the hospital by Senior Care just before 11am Sunday, where he died shortly after arriving.
The identity of the man has not yet been revealed by officials. It’s also unclear which type of COVID-19 vaccine he received.
The Javits Center and Zucker’s office have not yet returned a DailyMail.com request for comment on the matter.
In his statement, Zucker stressed that he and other public health experts believe the vaccine ‘is safe, and together with continued vigilance including wearing a mask and social distancing, it will bring an end to this pandemic.’
‘I encourage all eligible New Yorkers to get vaccinated,’ Zucker continued.
The Javits Center opened as a mass-vaccination site in January and is one of several in the New York City area. It was originally used as a field hospital after the coronavirus pandemic first struck last spring.
Nearly one million people in New York City have so far been vaccinated, with 1.5 million residents having received their first doses statewide.
Across the US, the daily number of people getting vaccinated now well surpasses the numbers infected, with the country averaging 1.3 million shots per-day.
Nearly 42 million doses have so far been administered in total.
At least one dose of a vaccine has been administered to 31,579,100 million people, which equals to 9.6 per cent of the population.
Just over 9,147,000 Americans have now received both doses of a vaccine, amounting to 2.78 per cent of the population.

She gets up while it is still night. She provides food for her family and portions for her female servants. Proverbs 31:15 NIV
One of the women that came for counselling told me how she almost lost her husband to a strange woman because she was not only a bad cook but also lazy to cook!
Her husband likes different types of soup/food instead of the regulars and does not like eating out. He had been complaining about his dear wife’s food with love and respect but she ignored it and always gave him excuses until her husband stopped eating at home. This issue almost destroyed their marriage.
Her husband started eating out so that he won’t bother his wife again. When the woman discovered that she was gradually loosing her dear husband, she adjusted and went straight to a catering school! Today, she is not only an irresistible cook but also a highly sought after caterer!
Her husband who had stopped eating at home for over five months, repented and started eating at home and the strange woman has been kicked out of their matrimonial home forever. No doubt, she is a wise woman
True, there are little things we overlook in marriage that matters a lot. If you don’t love cooking or you can’t cook as a sister, marriage is not the next thing but cooking training.
If you hate to cook as a single lady, there are so many single guys out there who don’t believe a wife should cook. Please find one and get married to him. You can’t hate cooking and be getting married to a man who wants a good cook.
It is not right if your husband and children still visit “mama put” regularly because you are a bad cook or you are too lazy to cook.
Single lady, if the only thing you can cook is white rice and noodles, you need urgent counselling. See me after service today! 😆. Go and learn how to prepare good food.
Lastly, sister, when you get married, please know that your kitchen is not a “prayer room”. It is where food is prepared/cooked. Be a great cook because beauty is not enough to turn an hungry husband to a smiling lover.
Yes, beauty fades but hunger doesn’t. Romance, love, cat-walking, good grammar, good grade or spirituality can not turn an empty big pot to correct Egusi, Ogbono or Vegetable soup with pounded yam even if you fast for seven days. Of course, speaking in tongues doesn’t turn raw rice to fried rice. Knowing how to cook good food is not a gift, it is a decision to learn. Any lady can become a good cook if she is willing to learn.
Note that a man you feed well is a man who cannot get fed up with you. When another woman begins to cook and feed your husband, be ready to lose him because one of the ways to a man’s heart is through good food whether you agree or not.
Be a great cook, wives. Men like good food. You can’t afford not to be a great cook. If you don’t know how to prepare good meals, learn from other women who cook better.
Ask your husband what he wants you to do better in your cooking. Don’t be shy to ask questions.
Cook his food promptly. Serve him in a special way. Treat him like a king. Always eat together.
Don’t allow your housemaid to cook your husband’s food, because a man falls in love with the hand that feeds him. (Proverbs 31:14-15).
Cook healthy, delicious and timely meal food for him. Serve your husband as your king.👩🍳👩💼 Special plates are for your husband, not for your pastor or visitors.
Don’t just cook his food alone, serve it specially. Don’t delegate it to someone else. Treat him like a VIP. Treat him like a special guest on the dining table.
As a wife, how good are you in the kitchen? Make sure you don’t fail in your kitchen ministry. 😊
Note: A man should also learn how to prepare good meals too as it is not solely the responsibility of a woman. Almost every woman will appreciate it if her husband prepares a wonderful meal for the family once in a while.
Lead Counsel for the petitioner in the ongoing presidential election petition hearing, Mr Tsatsu Tsikata has told the court that the chair of the 1st Respondent, Jean Mensa cannot skip cross-examination.
Mr Tsatsu argued that by filing a witness statement, the 1st Respondent has opened her up for cross examination.
“It is our respectful submission that by filing its witness statement the first respondent has clearly crossed the bridge as far as opening the witness up for cross-examination is concerned. That bridge has been crossed, the ship has already been sailed,” Tsatsu said in his argument to the bench.
Asked by one of the justices, Professor Nii Ashie Quartey, whether or not Jean Mensa cannot change her mind to testify, Tsatsu answered “The court has the power to disallow that change of mind.”
For his part, lawyer for the 2nd respondent Akoto Ampaw told the Supreme Court that the petitioner cannot compel the respondents to elect a witness to appear in the witness box.
During legal arguments on a move by the respondents’ decision not to testify in the case on Tuesday February 9, Mr Akoto Ampaw told the court “the petitioner cannot compel us to enter the witness box to adduce evidence.”
He added “The petitioner has adduced evidence and closed his case, we have taken the position that in our assessment they have not discharged the burden of proof and the burden of producing evidence and therefore, we will not give further evidence and the court will determine the case on the evidence before it.
“We are entitled not adduce any evidence, we are entitled not to call any witness.”
Lawyers for the 1st and 2nd respondents on Monday February 8 moved to close their cases in the ongoing election petition without their witnesses being cross-examined.
This was after Counsel for the petitioner Tsatsu Tsikata closed his case.
Mr Justin Amenuvor, lawyer for the 1st Respondent told the court that given the evidence of the petitioner’s witnesses who were crossed examined in the case, they do not want to lead any further evidence.
“Given the evidence of the petitioner’s witnesses under cross examination so far, of those witnesses, speaking for the 1st respondent, it is the 1st respondent’s case that we do not wish to lead any further evidence and therefore we are praying that this matter proceeds under Order 36 Rule 43 and CI 87 rule 3 (e) 5, we hereby and on that basis close our case.”

Veteran journalist and a pollster, Ben Ephson Junior says the National Democratic Congress (NDC) has greater advantage to win the 2024 Presidential election with John Mahama, considering the votes he garnered in the December 7, 2020 elections.
“I would be very surprised if the NDC picks somebody apart from Mahama,” the pollster told Captain Smart, host of the ‘Anɔpa Bɔfoɔ’ morning show on Angel 102.9 FM, Monday, February 8, 2021.
He added: “He got over 6.2 million votes. The main parties, NDC and NPP, are going to have headaches selecting a flagbearer. As things stand now Mahama is the foregone Candidate. He has a lot of advantages.
“Their main opponents also have a lot of disadvantages towards 2024. The only thing is whether they [NDC] will have a new running mate or not.”
The NDC will be racing for the Seat of Government in the 2024 general elections, despite the ongoing 2020 election petition hearing at the Supreme Court.
John Dramani Mahama, the 2020 Presidential Candidate for the NDC, based on expert views, is likely to lead the party again towards wresting power from the governing New Patriotic Party (NPP) in the 2024 general elections.
Answering the question of Mahama’s likelihood of losing to his contenders as Party leader, Mr. Ephson is positive that he will prevail over them. According him, John Mahama has a lot supporters on the ground so anyone who contents him will lose.
“The NPP is going to navigate a very tricky path in terms of new flagbearer, and they have a history of having problems whenever they elect a new flagbearer. For this reason a lot of people will like to contend him. If they do, they waste their monies, ” the pollster elaborated.
That said, during the party’s congress to select their Presidential Candidate for the 2020 elections, John Mahama garnered 178, 877 votes from 232 constituencies, representing 93.75% of total votes.
Other likely contenders include Professor Joshua Alabi, the party’s campaign manager in the 2020 elections, who prior to that contested for the leadership position and pulled 3, 835 votes representing 2.01%.
There is also some speculations in the media that Hannah Tetteh, former Member of Parliament (MP) for Awutu-Senya West Constituency and Minister for Foreign affairs under John Mahama, will be contesting for the position. She is now Special UN envoy to African Union.
Dr. Mahamed Ibn Chambas another diplomat serving as Special Representative of the Secretary-General and Head of the United Nations Office for West Africa and Sahel, is also conjectured to be part of candidates to contest in the race.
Others are Edward Korbly Doe Adjaho, former Speaker of Parliament; Kwame Awuah-Darko, former Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of Tema Oil Refinery (TOR); Horace Nii Ayi Ankrah, former Deputy Ghana Ambassador to China.
