Video:We must stop pampering LGBTQI members in Ghana – Ntim Fordjour

Ghanaian lawmaker Reverend John Ntim Fordjour believes Ghana has been too soft on the LGBTQI community resulting in the opening of a centre to champion their activities.

The MP for Assin South said the security agencies must not condone such activities, charging the national security to immediately zoom in and close down the centre.

β€œContrary to the notion that persons practicing LGBTQI in Ghana are discriminated against, I strongly hold the view that persons practicing LGBTQI are rather unfortunately pampered and treated with kids’ gloves in Ghana.

β€œThis position of mine, among other references, is premised on the seeming public β€˜glorifying’ on media of acts which are serious contravention of our law. The impunity of open and public advocacy and practice of LGBTQI is on the rise largely because perpetrators have not been prosecuted,” Rev Fordjour said in a statement.

β€œIt is appalling and most hypocritical that a state that abhors LGBTQI practices on religious and cultural orientation as well as criminalizes same practices per our Criminal Code would sit unconcerned for such impunity to be perpetrated.

“Some of us, regardless of the ramifications, cannot shut up! I’ll keep up the advocacy for further strengthening of our laws to completely and assertively deal with the complexities of LGBTQI matters and will continue to explore my legislative options under the private members bill until such a time when existing laws will be confidently enforced with additional laws proscribing the advocacy for LGBTQI practices in Ghana.”

Below is the statement:

Our Ghanaian society, since pre-colonial era had always upheld a culture of morality and decency and within our cultural and traditional contexts, the practices of Lesbianism, Homosexuality, Bestiality and Transgender and other related practices of LGBTQI had long held as abomination and utterly abhorred. The concept of family for us as Ghanaians has always been and will always be initiated by marriage between a man and woman. The fundamental principle of Biblical marriage is construed as one between man and woman as it was in the beginning instituted by God between Adam and Eve.

The influence of the West on our society relating to LGBTQI infiltrations remain an age-old pressure, which must be resisted as long as the pressure shows no indication of abating.

Section 104 of Ghana’s Criminal Code proscribes LGBTQI with the specific provision of β€˜unnatural carnal knowledge’. While some activists have contended that the provision of β€˜unnatural carnal knowledge’ is anachronistic and no longer sufficient to adequately address the emerging trends of LGBTQI matters in the country, and so therefore further strengthening of the law is required to position our laws more robust, encompassing and stringent in dealing with the abominable practices of LGBTQI, I have remained an ardent advocate for the enforcement of existing laws and fully inclined towards further legislation to adequately deal with these matters in consistency with the Constitution of Ghana and in line with our broad religious and cultural orientation, with particular regard for morality.

Contrary to the notion that persons practicing LGBTQI in Ghana are discriminated against, I strongly hold the view that persons practicing LGBTQI are rather unfortunately pampered and treated with kids’ gloves in Ghana. This position of mine, among other references, is premised on the seeming public β€˜glorifying’ on media of acts which are serious contravention of our law. The impunity of open and public advocacy and practice of LGBTQI is on the rise largely because perpetrators have not been prosecuted.

The recent opening of LGBTQI resource center in Accra is the height of it. Is the National Security apparatus telling us that they have no information on the location of this so called LGBTQI resource center that has been opened for weeks now? Are they telling us they have no intelligence on the people and groups behind this abominable act? Why are they quiet? If β€˜Armed Robbers Association’ or β€˜Drug Traffickers Association’ were to publicly open an office in any obscure corner of Ghana, wouldn’t the security agencies conduct a rapid raid by now with alacrity?

It is appalling and most hypocritical that a state that abhors LGBTQI practices on religious and cultural orientation as well as criminalizes same practices per our Criminal Code would sit unconcerned for such impunity to be perpetrated. Some of us, regardless the ramifications, cannot shut up! I’ll keep up the advocacy for further strengthening of our laws to completely and assertively deal with the complexities of LGBTQI matters and will continue to explore my legislative options under the private members bill until such a time when existing laws will be confidently enforced with additional laws proscribing the advocacy for LGBTQI practices in Ghana.

Until then, I strongly urge the national security apparatus to take urgent steps to CLOSE DOWN the LGBTQI resource center in Ghana with immediate effect and prosecute the perpetrators accordingly.

My fervent appeal to our eminent Clergy, Muslim Clerics, and venerable Traditional leaders, respectfully, is that, if these LGBTQI practices and advocacies are truly deemed affront to the values and orientation of what we unanimously believe in as a nation-state, then this is the time to rise up and make our voices and strong position heard and entrenched more uncompromisingly than ever before.

On diplomatic front, I urge all state and non-state actors and external diplomatic entities to respect the sovereign orientation and decision of Ghana in such matters and withhold their undue interference under the guise of human rights.

Why many Christian sisters remain unmarried

I had the privilege of speaking at a Christian women’s conference over the weekend and among other issues, the question on the lips of majority of the women was, “WHY ARE MANY CHRISTIAN LADIES WAITING FOR SO LONG TO GET A MAN”. I tried my best to answer this question. I felt led to share some of my thoughts for the benefits of some of our Christian sisters who are still waiting for the right man to come. Note: I am a pastor. These are my opinions. I am not forcing them on anyone. Some of my thoughts here are bible based, not culturally based, and some are the wisdom we gathered from mentoring people and from counselling sessions. This is a post for Christians. No feminist must come on my page to insult or attack anyone. If you are not happy with my comments, you may simply walk away or delete them. God bless you.

  1. A lot of Christian women are still waiting because they’ve set for themselves very unrealistic and unattainable standards of the kind of man they are looking for. So, they are masters at wasting opportunities. There are cases of women who said, “if he is not a graduate of Oxford, I can’t deal”. Someone told me that the lady said, “if your salary is not up to this amount, I can’t deal”. I told him that he had not found a wife. Why? The day they fire you, she may dump you. Of course, it’s your life and you can marry whoever you want. But if you are a believer, and have set such a standard, you have shot yourself in the foot. Be wary of the kind of list you are drawing. A lot of women have actually wasted a lot of opportunities that came their way because of their unrealistic list.
  2. A lot of women have got very bad attitudes that push many potential suitors away. Greet them, they reply you with insults. And the christian community is not an exception. Humility is like a perfume. Treat all men with respect. Even if you would never accept someone’s proposal, treat him with respect. He may be a friend to the right man–and his recommendation may be all that will attract that man to you. By God’s grace, it was my recommendation that sealed the deal for a beloved sister in Christ. The potential man asked me if she was a good person and I sealed the deal,. Today they are married. Attitude smells more than perfumes.
  3. Some Christian women have been trapped by their allegiance to their pastor and their church,. We’ve got cases of pastors deliberately standing against marriage to men from other ministries so that the lady won’t leave the church. This is witchcraft. Tens of thousands of Christian women are going through this particular challenge,. They have sold their wills to their pastors, and since there are no suitors in their church, they have remained single and are now in their late 40s and early 50s,. When you are ready to get married, you will open up yourself to believers from anywhere in the body of Christ.
  4. Some cases are actually the result of a demonic affliction. We can’t shy away from that,. There are cases where some women are being held down by a specific demonic opposition and they need to pray and break free from such afflictions. In fact, many of them get suitors, but something will just happen, and the relationship will break down. If you notice such a pattern in your life and 3, 4, 5 men are coming into your life and are dumping you even when you have been very good to them, you need to pray or talk to a matured believer or your pastor
  5. Some cases are self-inflicted. A lot of Christian women are embracing funny cultural biases that put them in direct confrontation with scriptures. To them, the bible is now obsolete. This is 21st century. I cannot submit to any man. I am also a man. So, there are going to be two men in the marriage. I am talking to Christian women now. If you want to operate your marriage using your own model and strategy, and you want to remain a Christian, you will have a lot of problem. You must marry a man you are willing to submit to. Submission is not slavery or dominance or male superiority–all of which are the reasons for some of the abuses we have in marriage. The biblical model of marriage is that the man is the head, and the woman is the helper. Not a slave-master relationship. If you are genuine believer in Christ, and you are looking for a man that you will head or that will share the headship role with you, you will wait for a long time.
  6. Some cases have to do with the physical attributes and looks of the woman. The woman’s body is the first thing that men look at–regardless of how anointed the man is. A lot of Christian men may pretend that they closed their eyes while assessing their wives. But that is a lie., Men are driven by what they can see. Some women are not well kept. They don’t manage their weight and given this, a lot of men are put off,. I have spoken against body-shaming women in several of my teachings. I stand against every form of abuse–including emotional abuse. But truth must be told, if you dont package yourself very well, and look very fit, a lot of men will be put off. Shed some weight; eat well; wear sparkling beautiful & descent clothes and with a right attitude and a good spirit, you will be findable.
  7. Some Christian women are not findable. They spend the whole of their time at work, and then at home and then again, back to work and at home. Where will the man find you? They are not strategically positioned to be found. They don’t socialize. I didnt say you should be going to clubs. I meant relating to people outside of your normal schedule. Joining social groups; Christian committees; Whatsapp groups; community events; weddings, birthday parties, and other online & offline platforms where you meet with people. Some women don’t even have any functioning Facebook page with their pictures. They want to keep a low profile, but yet, are looking for husbands. No man lights a candle and puts it under a bushel. I connected with my wife while she was at a wedding party.
  8. Some Christian women don’t want to leave their comfort zones. The men that are asking you out are based in America, have better jobs than you, but you don’t want to relocate to America because of your circle of friends and social status in the UK. Of course, it is also possible for your husband to relocate to your own place too. But that depends on who has the better profile. He is a manager of a bank in New York, and you are doing a per hr job in Canada. Then, you are asking him to relocate to Canada and abandon his better paying job? Then, you’re not ready to get married. Location has grounded a lot of women. I tell the women in this situation to go on vacation to Nigeria, Ghana and get out of their comfort zones.
  9. Some women have just come out of a very bad experience of abuse from a previous relationship. Some are actually a victim of abuse. Now, to them, all men are bad. Consequently, they don’t open up to suitors. They will frustrate all men that come around them. They will cut the phone on them; insult them; block them on social media and transfer the aggression of a previous relationship to them. Yet, they are still praying for the right man to come. If you are in this condition, you may need to see a psychologist or a mental health consultant to help you overcome these past pains and hurts.
  10. Some cases are simply a product of time. The right time has not come. There is a special assignment for you and God needs you to marry a particular man. If you miss this man, it is a disaster. For these cases, a lot of patience and endurance are needed. This is the situation of a lot of people as well,. You will need to pray to get a unique word from the Lord if you case falls within this scope. This is why believers need to be trained to know how to hear the voice of God. You will need to know whether this is your case or not by praying to hear God.

Above all, the God factor is non negotiable. Remaining prayerful while doing your best as explained above will certainly open you up to a God-fearing relationship. Learning to forgive and moving on will also help you. Have a positive attitude; look good and make yourself to be very smart; be respectful to all men. All men are not devils,. All men are not evil. I am not perfect, but I have never used a foul language against my wife in nearly 15yrs of marriage. Not even, “don’t you think”? Neither has the smallest finger of my hand ever touched her. And there are millions of much better men than me out there. Not all men are evil and terrible. You will be surprised at how things will work out and the right man will locate you if you could only make some little changes here and there.

May every embargo upon your marital breakthrough be destroyed in Jesus name

Video: Gay office in Kwabenya closed down by Police

An office in Kwabenya, a suburb of Accra which was being operated by Lesbian, Gay, Bisexuals, Transgender and Queer Individuals (LGBTQI) in Kwabenya has been closed down by the Police on Wednesday February 24.

TV3’s Stanley Nii Blewu who witnessed the closure of the office reported that the land lord had said the occupants were no longer using the office for the original purpose of which they rented it.

This comes after Director of LGBTQI+ Rights in Ghana, Alex Kofi Donkor, has asked Ghanaians to look at issues relating to LGBTQI, as human right issues.

He told TV3’s Miriam Osei Agyemang on the Mid day news on Friday February 19 that persons who are identified as LGBTQI are verbally and physically attacked in the country

This, he said, must stop because they have fundamental human rights that must be respected and protected by the society.

Explaining the reasons behind the setup of an LGBTQI office in Ghana, he said β€œWe created an office space where we talk about issues which affect us as community and ways in which we can resolve the issues.

Let me quickly say in this country a lot of times we do experience a lot of violence and abuse that are perpetuated towards people who are identified as LGBTQI or people who are perceived as LGBTQI persons.

β€œWhen these violence are perpetuated against such people it goes unattended to, people do that with impunity.”

Akufo-Addo to be first person in Ghana to receive COVID-19 vaccine

Government is introducing digital applications and call centers for pre-booking of Covid vaccination.

Presidential advisor on health, Dr. Anthony Nsiah Asare who made this known says the move will help with monitoring and also encourage more Ghanaians to avail themselves for the vaccination, which comes at no cost.

He told TV3’s Grace Hammoah Asare in an exclusive interview , that, President Akuffo Addo will be the first Ghanaian to receive the vaccine

Ghana is expecting its first consignment of the AstraZeneca and sputnik Covid vaccines by the close of this week.

Even before its arrival, Ghanaians have expressed mixed reactions on their willingness or otherwise on taking the jab.

For some, the side effects are their concern.

But the Presidential advisor on health, Dr. Nsiah Asare says such reactions are normal.

β€œPresident Akufo-Addo will be the first to be vaccinated. This is to assure Ghanaians that the vaccine re safe and any other reactions like headache, dizziness, or pains are all usual with every vaccination”, he assured.

He noted that government is introducing applications and call centers for booking and monitoring of the exercise

β€œWe are even thinking of introducing apps, so that people can book for the vaccinations. We will also set up call centers and send SMS to people on the dates and times of their vaccination”

According to him, it is in the interest of the country, for people to avail themselves to vaccinate.

β€œWe encourage everyone to avail themselves for the vaccine. It is safe and we want other Ghanaian abroad to also put out their videos to encourage others in Ghana”.

Some 20 million Ghanaians are expected to be vaccinated in the exercise which begins in March.

Two MPs condemn homosexuality

Two Members of Parliament (MP) have condemned the activities of lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, queer and intersex (LGBTQI) groups in the country.

According to the MP for Assin South, Rev. John Ntim Fordjour, and Bawku Central MP, Mr Mahama Ayariga, Ghanaian laws abhorred the practice of homosexuality and must, therefore, be identified and dealt with according to law.

β€œThey don’t have the right to practise gay or lesbianism so they cannot say their rights have been violated. You don’t have the right to be gay or lesbians in Ghana,” Mr Ayariga stated.

Context

Since news broke about the inauguration of an office for LGBTQI in Accra, there have been outpourings of condemnation and calls for the closure of the office.

In an interview with the Daily Graphic, Mr Ayariga said as matters stood, the law criminalising sodomy remained in the country’s statute books β€œso no one has a right to be a practitioner of sodomy or lesbianism or however called”.

He, however, said anyone caught in the act enjoyed the rights of due process of law in the sense that they should not be lynched or beaten and assaulted.

β€œThey should be treated like any suspect for any other offence,” he stated.

Freedom

Speaking from a legal perspective, he said, it was important that Ghanaians differentiated the practice of LGBTQI and advocacy.

β€œIn the case of people who are just advocating the decriminalisation of sodomy and unnatural canal knowledge, I take a legal position that there is a constitutional right to free expression and association to advocate the decriminalisation of the sodomy laws of Ghana,” he said.

Mr Ayariga said if those setting up the offices or advocating were LGBTQIs, then they were engaged in criminal activities and could be individually investigated to establish if they could be prosecuted.

β€œIf the office is created by citizens who don’t identify themselves as actual gays but are just people sympathetic to the cause of the LGBTQI community and want to advocate the law to change to decriminalise sodomy and lesbianism and transgender activities, then we must appreciate the fine balance between advocacy for a change of the law on LGBTQI acts in Ghana and the actual practice of sodomy.

Assin South MP

For his part, Rev. Ntim Fordjour pointed out that LGBTQI was an β€œabomination and utterly abhorred,” hence must not be encouraged in the country.

β€œSince the pre-colonial era, Ghana has always upheld a culture of morality and decency and within our cultural and traditional contexts,” he stated.

It said activities of LGBTQIs in Ghana were due to pressures from the western world which must be resisted.

β€œThe influence of the West on our society relating to LGBTQI infiltrations remain an age-old pressure, which must be resisted as long as the pressure shows no indication of abating,” he added.

Laws
In a statement, Rev. Ntim Fordjour pointed out that Section 104 of Ghana’s Criminal Code proscribes LGBTQI with the specific provision of β€œunnatural carnal knowledge”.

Press statement requesting government to declare Australian high commissioner & Danish Ambassador persona non Grata- Journalist against LGBTO+GHANA

We wish to request government to declare two diplomats as persona non grata as a result of their involvement in funding the community space of the Lesbians, Gays, Bisexual, Transgender and Queer (LGBTQ) group.

The two diplomats, the Australian High Commissioner, His Excellency, Andrew Barnes and the Danish Ambassador, His Excellency, Tom Norring have been accused for funding the community space as a result of the LGBTQ group hosting them as fundraisers on January 31, 2021.

As a result of their actions, we (Journalists’ Against the LGBTQ group + Ghana) is drawing the attention of government to declare that the presence of the diplomats in the country was unfit and therefore their actions did not consider the highly kept morals and preserved culture and traditions of our dear country.

We also want to clear the air that a story circulating that President Nana Addo Danquah Akufo-Addo has directed the closure of the LGBTQ office is totally false and mere charade.

Our checks with the security agencies reveal that they do not know the location of the LGBTQ office but we know the office is located within the precincts of the Australian Ambassador’s official residence.

We are calling on all Ghanaians to join us demonstrate to government how livid we are seeing the group go about their duties in the country.

We will start the demonstration at Obra Spot, Kwame Nkrumah Circle Interchange on Wednesday,24th February, 2021 from 6am to 12noon marching through various places in the national capital until we get to the seat of government, Jubilee House to present our petition.

Ntim Fordjour deserve commendation

The fight against LGBT has been a fight on the neck of Ghana since prof. Mills time.

This has been a music from day one, when American and other European countries accepted it as a norm. Ghana been a Christian nation and also a traditional nation can’t toll to that direction.

The current mp has been consistent in the fight against this and for that matter he must be commended.

I take exception to some comments he made during the 2020 election with regards to his opponent and this LGBT. In total he has done well and need to be commended.

Hon Ntim may God bless you for such a strong fight against this immoral act.

Thank you

First batch of COVID-19 vaccines expected to arrive today

Ghana is expected to take delivery of its first batch of COVID-19 vaccines later today, according to the Minister for Information-designate, Kojo Oppong Nkrumah.

In brief comments at the Conference and Donor Presentation for the Sustainable Development of Yendi Municipal Hospital on Sunday, he noted that he was at the programme β€œthough I have another engagement on our COVID-19 vaccines that are arriving early [Monday] morning.”

The Food and Drugs Authority has approved the AstraZeneca and Sputnik V vaccines for use in Ghana.

The government has also considered Moderna, Pfizer and Johnson & Johnson vaccines.

The government has already indicated that it had plans to purchase 350,000 doses of the AstraZeneca by the end of February.

The vaccine rollout has been earmarked for between March and October.

Mr. Oppong Nkrumah earlier confirmed that some government officials will be taking the vaccine publicly as a way of instilling confidence in the process.

There will also be public sensitisation campaigns by the Local Government Service, Ministry of Health, Ghana Health Service, National Commission for Civic Education and Information Services Department to educate the public on the vaccination.

The Greater Accra, Ashanti and Western regions will receive priority in the rollout because of the prevalence of infection in these areas, according to the Ghana Health Service.

Ghana has had 80,253 cases of the virus and 577 deaths.

The country currently has 6,658 active cases of infection, according to the latest update from the Ghana Health Service.
