Assin Tomfokro Basic School Block Collapses, Pupils Study Under Trees

Pupils of Assin Tomfokro Basic School have been studying under trees, weeks after school reopened. The situation is due to the collapse of their classroom block which was in a dilapidated state for years.
Community members say there have been numerous appeals to successive governments to attend to their situation but nothing has been done to salvage their plight.
This is the state of Assin Tomfokro D/A primary school in the Assin South District of the Central Region.

The rickety classroom block which was constructed by the community members in 1961 has not seen any reconstruction nor rehabilitation by the government.
The classroom block remained in bad shape until its current state which has rendered the teachers and learners classless.
Kindergarten to stage six pupils now study under trees because of the poor state of their classroom block.

A GETFUND classroom project which was started under Former President Kuffour’s era is still not completed.
Teachers say the experience of teaching under such a condition has been challenging.

The Apagyahen of Assin Atandanso Traditional Area and Chief of Tomfokro, Nana Danfo Amoako in an interview with g-newsnetwork disclosed that teachers of the school have threatened to apply for transfer from the school, if the situation remains the same.
“The Teachers have threatened to leave the School by next year. Due to their situation, the pupils are not performing. The standard of education is really low here”.
